Physical Education

Hello Parents, and welcome to 2017! I am excited to start my time at WHPS, and have already enjoyed getting to know a lot of your children through the first few lessons. So far we've spent time getting to know each other and our mutual appreciation of sports and games, as well as covering expectations, safety in class, and some basic skills.

Unfortunately I'm yet to find a student who shares my love for the North Melbourne

Kangaroos, but hopefully by the end of the year I'll have a few converts!

Term 1 Curriculum

For the P-2’s this term, we will be covering Fundamental Motor Skills and Basic Movement Patterns. This will be through focusing on balancing, running, and a variety of ball-handling skills.

The 3-6’s will focus on their skill progression through the sports of cricket and soccer, which is also a great opportunity for them to build on their strategic thinking and leadership skills. We will also be challenging the students to establish personal health goals through fitness testing, which will be revisited later on in the year.

My observations so far are that the students of WHPS love their sport! I've been impressed with their enthusiasm and I am excited to see what we can accomplish together in the coming weeks.

Mr Horne

3-6 Sport:

On Thursday 9th of February over 50 of our year 3-6 students participated in our WHPS Swimming Trials.

Based on some terrific performances, a number of our students will be selected to represent the school at the District Swimming Carnival. These students will be notified shortly. It was fantastic to see our students striving hard and supporting their schoolmates. We congratulate all our students on their participation and

wish our District Swim Team all the best.

Our 3-6 students have also begun participating in Friday morning sport. This week

we played our first interschool sport match at home against Norris Bank PS. Our school is represented by basketball, bat tennis, cricket and rounders teams. We also

have a group of students enjoying a range of sporting activities at school during these times. Good luck to all our teams!

Our 3-6 Intensive Swimming Program is due to begin in the next few weeks. This is a great opportunity for students to develop swimming and survival skills, derive health benefits and have fun. The dates of the programme are:

Tuesday March 14th, 21st & 22nd

Thursday March 16th, 23rd & 30th

Mr Horne and Mr Ryan are looking forward to working together to assist our students to develop their skills in Sport and Physical Education this year and helping them in becoming healthy and active citizens.
